start here
Hello & welcome, friend!
I’m delighted you’re here, and I look forward to seeing where this journey takes you.
My name is Melinda, and this space — The Civil Edge — is built from a deep place of purpose, passion, and gratitude. If you’re a student, young professional, aspiring engineer, or someone who wants to grow in your STEM journey, you’ve found the right place to start.
But first, let me tell you how it all began.
When I started college, I didn’t know a single civil engineer. My parents and siblings weren’t in the field, and I had no roadmap. I walked in with questions and curiosity and not much else. That all changed when one of my professors recognized my potential and became my mentor. His guidance didn’t just help me pass classes; it helped me present at national and international geotechnical conferences, publish research papers, and ultimately become a geotechnical engineer working on flood risk and infrastructure projects that truly matter.
That mentorship lit a fire in me, and now I’m passing that torch to you.
You don’t have to figure everything out alone. I didn’t, and you shouldn’t either. I hope this blog feels like a space where you’re seen, supported, and inspired to keep pushing forward.
Let’s build bridges, break barriers, and celebrate every small win along the way.
Welcome to Civil Edge — where engineering meets opportunity. I’m committed to helping you navigate your professional journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes you.
